The Navy News summary of the game follows:

LATE GOAL TOSSED THE 'OLD & BOLD

A penalty goal from in front, near full-time, gave COMMS a 14-12 win over the "old and bold" (CH's and PO's) in a Rugby thriller at Cerberus recently.

The teams comprised:

The "Old & Bold" - Chap Peter Ball (referee), POPT Peter Egan, POPT Bill Lunney (VCapt), PO Boots Perry, POPT Ted Mellish, POCK Atkins, CPO Mopsy McGrath, POWTR Bennett, PO Ray Hattenfel, CDS Dusty Miller, POPT Spike Jones, SAW Cocky Roach, CPOPT Pedro Rich, POWTR Salty Eckel (Capt), POE Elliott, ERA Vervaart, PO Riley.

The "Comms" - OCO Marks, RO Froome, OCO O'Brien, OCO Medway, RO Holmes, OCO Swadling, OCO Towns, OCO Romaine, LRO Imms, OCO Dennis, LTO Johnston, LTO Gilford, LTO Kong (Capt), OCO Ratcliffe (VCapt), OCO Williams, OCO Streeter.

Comms raced to a 11-0 lead before the old fellows knew what was going on. At half-time they marshalled their forces and Ray Hattenfels kicked two penalty goals and Comms still led 11-6. From a quick tap penalty, 'Salty' sent Ray Hattenfels over in the corner for a try and the lead was cut down to 11-9. Two minutes later, Pedro Rich won a scrum. Tony Roser kicked through, and Mopsy McGrath dived over to make the score 12-11 in favour of the old fellas. The 'grandstand' went wild and the bettors started to change money. But they did not take into consideration the ever-watchful eye of Peter Ball, the referee, who trapped the unfortunate 'Cocky' Roach offside right in front of the sticks. Young Medway made no mistake with the kick and Comms went to a 14-12 winning lead.

'Comms' 14 (Ratcliffe 2, Swadling tries, Medway goal, penalty goal) defeated 'Old and Bold' 12 (Hattenfels, McGrath tries, Hattenfels 2 penalty goals).
